Teacher preparation
Teacher preparation is a critical component of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund School Reform Initiative. Our models for success center around several key reform initiative areas aimed at accomplishing the Fund’s goal of increasing student performance and closing the achievement gap. Accordingly, to meet the needs of the 21st century learner and prepare our students to be leaders of the future, TMCF has developed a reform model that will engage in the following key activities to meet this challenge:
- Provide an active HBCU clearinghouse database of highly qualified teachers
- Support student teaching practicum in urban and rural environments
- Develop and implement Professional Development opportunities for teachers
- Supply a diverse database of teachers by increasing the percentage of male and minority teachers
- Foster capacity-building attributes in students to improve effective instructional practices
- Foster Best Practices to highlight effective teaching
